Walk around in their shoes for a bit

*"To Kill a Mockingbird". Who doesn't love Atticus?

So, technically, this post has no science fiction in it.  It was, however, inspired by a fictional character.

Carl Sagan:
"If a human disagrees with you, let him live. In a hundred billion galaxies you will not find another."

Ordinary People:
"Listen, be aware, kiddo.  People don't change on command from other people.  You oughta know that, having given her the ultimate command over a year ago."

Melissa Karnaze:
"Arguing has one objective- to control what someone thinks.  What they feel.  What they should do.  What they want.  What they need.  What's good for them.  You don't want others controlling you.  And you don't want to control others, that's lose-lose. ...Have an honest discussion about the real problem that needs to be fixed."

Edward R. Murrow
"Everyone is a prisoner of his own experiences.  No one can eliminate prejudices- just recognize them."

Martin Luther King, Jr:
"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.  Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."

Serenity:
"I don't care what you believe in, just believe in it"

JLH:
"Having a personal opinion is great. Believing that one's personal opinion is the absolute truth leads to most of the world's troubles."

Elie Wiesel:
"The opposite of love is not hate, it's indifference."

Ralph Waldo Emerson:
"People seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character."
